Meet the team: Sophia🚀
We asked Sophia some thoughtful questions.
Sophia, how did you discover your passion for data?
I opted for Business Engineering, a program that presents three specializations for the last two years, with one of them focusing on data analytics. During my academic journey, I encountered an array of data science-related courses such as data mining and algorithms & data structures, which captivated my interest deeply. Immersing myself in these subjects made me realize my fervor for the field. Additionally, the affinity for data science seems to be a familial trait, as both my brother and father are involved in this domain. It always felt somewhat inevitable that I would find myself drawn to it as well.
Why specifically did you choose Plainsight?
Several factors influenced my decision to start here. Firstly, the strong emphasis on data-related projects immediately caught my attention. Secondly, the company culture, which prioritizes knowledge sharing, is the perfect support I need to further extend my work experience. As a recent graduate, I acknowledge that I still have a lot to learn, and being in an environment where everyone freely shares their knowledge and experiences is invaluable. Lastly, the accessibility to seek guidance from anyone on any topic is remarkable. Each person brings their own expertise to the table, which proves incredibly helpful when navigating through various new challenges and tasks.
How did you experience your first weeks?
Getting acquainted with everyone was a seamless process, and I was warmly welcomed right away. I recently participated in a co-working day in Antwerp, where I had the chance to meet the majority of the team. This was followed by a knowledge-sharing session in Ghent to connect with the remaining members. I've already begun working on my very first customer project which has proven to be an incredibly enriching experience. Overall, the initial weeks have been wonderful, and I'm eagerly anticipating what lies ahead!
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Without a doubt, my top choice would be teleportation. I find myself falling into the classic hypocritical mindset when dealing with traffic: while driving, I get annoyed by cyclists, but when I'm cycling, it feels like every car is blocking my path. Moreover, teleportation would revolutionize international travel, making it incredibly convenient. With teleportation, I could effortlessly enjoy sushi for lunch in Japan, indulge in high-tea in England in the afternoon, and savor a curry for dinner in Thailand, all in a single day.
